SWARM MMO

Games like Eufloria

Swarms sent between bodies in space, played against people instead of a campaign.

Eufloria is a quiet single-player strategy game about seedlings. Trees on asteroids grow seedlings, you send the seedlings to other asteroids, and when enough arrive they take the asteroid and plant trees of their own. Swarm MMO runs on the same loop, with probes and planets, and puts it on a galaxy other players are fighting over.

What the shared map changes

Eufloria can be patient because nothing hurries you. Swarm MMO keeps some of that patience: a planet can sit on a stockpile indefinitely and nothing decays. But the other side of the border is a person who also saves up. A level-10 planet adds 10 probes a minute whether you are online or not, and so does theirs.

Eufloria's trees have an equivalent in upgrades. A level costs 100 × level² probes, so 100 for level 2 and 400 for level 3, and each level is a permanently higher rate. Suns take the place of the rarer asteroids: they convert probes into super-probes at 100 to 1 and pay energy that buys technology.

What Swarm MMO does not have

If the calm of playing alone is what you want, Eufloria is still the better game for it. The Galcon comparison covers a faster relative from the same family.

Getting started from Eufloria

Expand earlier than you would against the AI. Every planet you take produces for as long as you hold it, and the neutral planets near your spawn go to whoever reaches them first. Keep a reserve on the planets at your border, because the attack you get is the one a player chose after looking at your garrison.

Questions

Is Swarm MMO like Eufloria?

The core loop is the same: bodies produce units, and you send units to take more bodies. Swarm MMO has one unit type, and the map is a persistent galaxy shared with other players rather than a campaign level.

Is Swarm MMO single-player?

No. Every opponent is another player, and there is no offline or AI mode.

Is it as relaxed as Eufloria?

It is slow in places, because the endgame is measured in days and automation can run an empire between visits. It is not calm in the same way, since a neighbour can take planets while you are away.

What replaces Eufloria's trees?

Planet levels. Upgrading a planet raises what it produces each minute, up to level 10.
